Khin Ma Ma Myo, Minister of Economy and Commerce of the National Unity Government of Myanmar, the President of ITALIA-BIRMANIA.INSIEME Enzo Scotti and Cecilia Brighi were received by the ASIA Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Alessandra Schiavo.
At the center of the meeting were the responses to the very catastrophic situation of human rights violation and the humanitarian crisis caused by the genocidal junta, the urgency of the recognition by Italy and the EU of the of National Unity Government (NUG) and the need for the introduction of further sanctions against the military junta, especially in the financial, insurance and fuel (used for air strikes) supply sectors.
ITALIA-BIRMANIA.INSIEME underlined the importance that Italy adopt courageous choices to support the National Unity Government and the democratic organizations in the next six months to counter the sham elections called by the junta and to prevent the democratic opposition from dying out, due to lack of concrete support.
Khin Ma Ma Myo came to Rome at the invitation of the Burmese Community in Italy and of ITALIA-BIRMANIA.INSIEME (IBI). Minister Khin Ma Ma Myo also met with some of the founding members of ITALIA-BIRMANIA.INSIEME to agree on common initiatives in support of the National Unity Government and the Myanmar democratic organizations.
In her brief visit to Rome, the Minister met yesterday afternoon with representatives of the Burmese community of Rome to update them on the strategies of the National Unity Government to defeat the junta.
